How much a dental implant costs: splitting a quote into its items

Implant post, abutment, crown, bone graft, CT scan: what each costs in Ho Chi Minh City in 2026, and how to read a quote. Sources at the end of the article.

A cross-section jaw model with an implant post and no crown, the ceramic crown placed separately beside it

At An Nhiên Dental, a single implant tooth almost always has three items on the quote: a CT scan, the post with its abutment, and the crown. Added together, the starting prices for those three come to from 18,000,000 VND per tooth with a Korean post. The final figure is set after the exam and the CT scan. If there is not enough bone, a bone graft (from 5,000,000 VND) or a sinus lift is added.

Across the city the spread is much wider. A price round-up by the Vietnamese booking portal Medpro (updated 1 April 2026) lists implants at the clinics it covers from 8.4 million to 50 million VND per tooth. Most of that gap is not about the post itself. It comes from what each clinic includes in, or leaves out of, the first number you see.

This article lines the items up so you can compare like with like. Prices are in Vietnamese dong; we do not convert them, because the exchange rate moves.

What goes into an implant quote

An implant tooth has three parts in your mouth. The post is a threaded piece, usually titanium, placed in the jawbone where the root used to be. The abutment (the connector between the implant post and the crown) sits on top of it. The crown is the tooth you see and chew with. Cleveland Clinic’s patient guide (updated 11 June 2026) describes the same three parts.

Around those three parts sit the steps before and after surgery. The table lists them in the order you will meet them.

Implant post with abutment Replaces the root Korean from 14,000,000 VND; US or French from 22,000,000 VND; Swiss from 32,000,000 VND Korean 13 to 17 million; French 20 to 25 million; US 22 to 30 million; Swiss 30 to 35 million (Medpro, 6 July 2026) Crown, CT, bone graft
Crown on the implant The visible tooth from 3,500,000 VND No source found that lists implant crowns separately Price depends on the material
Bone graft Rebuilds missing jawbone from 5,000,000 VND 5 to 10 million for a bone graft or sinus lift at Bệnh viện Răng Hàm Mặt TP.HCM, the city’s public dental hospital (Medpro, 1 April 2026) Only if the CT shows too little bone
Sinus lift Adds bone height in the upper back jaw Quoted after the CT As above Upper jaw only, when the sinus sits low

Starting prices, as listed on 4 October 2026. The final price is set in writing after the dentist’s exam.

Two smaller items are easy to forget: medication after surgery and the review visits. Our starting-price list does not show them as separate lines; your written quote says whether they are included. Wherever you are treated, ask this before you sign.

One more thing about the reference ranges. Medpro quotes prices “per tooth” without saying whether the crown, abutment or CT is included. Two figures of “15 million” from two places can describe two different things. At An Nhiên the post (with abutment) is listed apart from the crown and the scan, so the first number you see is lower than the total you pay.

Adding up the starting prices for one tooth

This table adds the starting prices of the three items nearly every implant needs. It is a sum to help you picture the total, not a quote for your tooth.

Post group Post with abutment Crown CT scan Sum of starting prices Not included
Korean from 14,000,000 VND from 3,500,000 VND from 500,000 VND from 18,000,000 VND Bone graft (from 5,000,000 VND) or sinus lift if needed
US or French from 22,000,000 VND from 3,500,000 VND from 500,000 VND from 26,000,000 VND As above
Swiss from 32,000,000 VND from 3,500,000 VND from 500,000 VND from 36,000,000 VND As above

Starting prices, as listed on 4 October 2026. The final price is set in writing after the dentist’s exam.

A different crown material, or more complex bone, changes the final figure. The dentist can only set it after the exam and the scan.

Post prices by origin: what makes them differ

We group posts by origin into three bands: Korean, US or French, and Swiss. The gap between the bands usually reflects the manufacturer’s brand, import and distribution costs, the system of parts that comes with each post, and the manufacturer’s warranty terms. A higher price does not mean a different result in your mouth. The result depends far more on your bone, your gums, your general health, whether you smoke, and how you look after the implant.

We do not rank one manufacturer above another, because we have not read an independent comparison that would support it. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises patients to ask which brand and model of implant is being used, and to keep that information. That is good advice wherever you have the work done. Korean, US and Swiss implant posts goes through the questions to ask about the post.

When a bone graft or sinus lift is added

After a tooth is lost, the bone that held its root can become thinner and lower. The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) notes that tooth loss or gum disease can leave too little bone in the upper back jaw to place an implant. In that area the maxillary sinus sits just above, so the sinus floor sometimes has to be raised to make room. A Cone Beam CT (a cone-beam computed tomography scan, giving a 3D image of the jawbone) tells the dentist how much bone there is.

Procedure When the dentist considers it Waiting time in the reference sources
Bone graft The jaw is not tall or wide enough for the post At least about 3 months; large grafts 9 to 12 months (Cleveland Clinic)
Sinus lift Upper back jaw, sinus sitting low Usually 4 to 12 months before the post; sometimes the post goes in at the same time (AAP)

Not everyone needs a graft, and not everyone has enough bone for an implant straight away. The dentist decides after reading the CT and shows you the reason on the scan. More in Bone graft and sinus lift.

The crown on the implant

The crown is the part other people see, and the item most often left out of a post price. At An Nhiên an implant crown starts from 3,500,000 VND, final after the exam. The material (metal-ceramic, zirconia, which is a solid ceramic, or premium ceramic) affects the price and the colour. Choosing crown material compares the three groups, and the crowns page lists starting prices for crowns on natural teeth.

From first visit to finished crown

Our price list says usually 2 to 6 months from post to crown. Medpro (updated 1 April 2026) also gives 2 to 6 months, depending on the bone and the type of restoration. Cleveland Clinic gives 3 to 9 months for the bone to fuse with the post. The sources differ because every jaw is different. The dentist gives you an estimate after reading your scan, and tells you how much longer a graft would add.

Step What happens Time
1. Exam and consultation Examination, history, the medicines you take A 45-minute visit
2. CT scan The dentist reads the scan with you and shows where bone is enough or not Same visit or the next
3. Written quote Every item on its own line; valid 30 days After the scan is read
4. Placing the post Local anaesthetic, the post goes into the bone, the gum is stitched One visit; the dentist tells you how long beforehand
5. Waiting for the bone to fuse Review visits as booked Usually 2 to 6 months
6. Abutment, impression, crown The crown is made from an impression of your teeth The dentist sets the number of visits in the plan
7. Regular reviews Checks on the post, crown and gum Every 6 months

How it feels, honestly

You get a local anaesthetic before the post is placed. The dentist asks how you feel during the procedure and stops when you ask. You may still feel pressure and hear the instruments.

Once the anaesthetic wears off, some soreness and swelling are common. Cleveland Clinic says most people feel normal again within about a week. After a bone graft, the same source mentions tenderness, swelling and bruising for one to two weeks. Everyone feels it differently. The dentist prescribes medication when needed and tells you which signs mean you should call the clinic.

Who may not be ready straight away

Cleveland Clinic and the FDA both list situations that make healing harder: untreated gum disease, unmanaged diabetes, smoking, and a lot of bone loss. Having one of these does not necessarily rule an implant out. It may mean treating the gums first, grafting first, or waiting.

An implant is not the only option. A bridge (which needs the two neighbouring teeth shaved down) and a removable denture are other options the dentist may set out at the consultation, with what each gives and what each costs you in trade-offs. The choice is yours.

An example: two questions at the consultation

An illustrative case for this demo site; the person and figures are made up.

Mr Đinh Văn Phúc, 52, runs a small shop in former District 10. He lost a lower back tooth eight months ago, and his main worry is the price growing halfway through. He brings two questions:

  1. “Does this quote include the crown on the post?” At An Nhiên the crown is its own line, from 3,500,000 VND, next to the line for the post with abutment. He sees both before signing.
  2. “If there isn’t enough bone, how much more is it?” That can only be answered after the CT. If a graft is needed, the quote gets one more line, from 5,000,000 VND, and the dentist shows him on the scan why.

These two questions work at any clinic. The answers belong on paper, not only in conversation.

Paying in instalments, and the deposit

For treatment of 10,000,000 VND or more there are two ways to spread the cost. The first is staged payment at the clinic: 30% when the plan is agreed, the rest in equal parts by treatment stage over up to 12 months, with no interest and no application fee. The second is a linked credit card at 0% over 6, 9 or 12 months, if the bank approves; any conversion fee is set by the bank, and the clinic adds none.

For example, with a 20,000,000 VND quote on the first plan you pay 6,000,000 VND when the plan is agreed and the remaining 14,000,000 VND by stage. The payment plans page has a calculator for your own figure; the result is an estimate, not a credit offer.

For implant surgery and bone grafts, the clinic takes a deposit of 20% of the quote, at most 5,000,000 VND, credited to your bill. It is refunded if the clinic changes the date or if you cancel more than 48 hours ahead.

How we do it at An Nhiên

  • Implants are led by Dr Đoàn Minh Khôi, BS.CKII (specialist level II, a postgraduate clinical qualification in Vietnam), 18 years in practice, practising licence no. 000041/HCM-GPHN (fictional). See Dr Khôi’s profile.
  • Dr Khôi takes the CT scan and walks you through it before giving a quote. He can explain in English (fictional).
  • The written quote lists every item separately: post with abutment, crown, imaging, and a graft if one is needed. It is valid for 30 days.
  • The warranty is written on a card: the post 10 years on the manufacturer’s terms, the crown 5 years for material and lab work, on condition of a review every 6 months. Not covered: injury, neglect, a new disease. It covers materials and workmanship, not a biological outcome.
  • Dr Khôi sees patients on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The clinic does not run an emergency service; out of hours, call 115 or go to the nearest emergency department.

The full list is on the pricing page and the details on the dental implants page. You can book a 45-minute exam with Dr Khôi. The exam and consultation cost 0 VND; a CT scan is charged separately, from 500,000 VND, when the dentist asks for one.
