Braces on instalments: deposit, months, where the fees hide

A deposit of about 30%, 12 to 18 months, interest from 0%: the conditions, application fees, conversion fees. Sources and check date at the end.

Paying for braces in instalments in Vietnam usually means about 30% up front and the rest over 12 to 18 months, sometimes 24. “0% interest” does exist, but it tends to come with conditions: approval of your application, a fixed term, and possibly an application or conversion fee. This article helps you read an instalment offer before you sign it.

What instalment plans look like in 2026

Two pages we reread on 5 October 2026:

Point Medpro (updated 15/07/2026) Home Credit (10/06/2026)
Up front About 30%, or 8 to 10 million VND From 30% of the treatment price
Term 12 to 24 months 12 to 18 months
Interest Promotional, down to 0% depending on the plan From 0%, by promotion
Limit Not stated Up to 60 million VND
Fees to ask about Application fee, loan insurance, conversion fee Application fee, management fee, late payment fee

Home Credit is a consumer finance company, so its page promotes its own product. We use it to see how instalments are described locally, not as the terms of our clinic.

Medpro also gives an example: metal braces, 30% up front, the rest over 18 months, about 1,160,000 VND a month.

The two common ways to pay

Staged payment at the clinic. You pay part when you agree the plan and the rest by treatment stage. No bank is involved, so there is no loan application. Terms tend to be shorter, because the clinic carries the unpaid part itself.

A credit card or a finance company. The bank or lender pays the clinic, and you repay them monthly. Terms can be longer. In return you have a second contract, a credit agreement, with its own terms.

For foreign residents, the second route depends on whether a Vietnamese bank or lender will approve you. Home Credit’s page says only a Vietnamese citizen ID card (CCCD) is needed, which suggests their product is designed for Vietnamese citizens; we did not check what lenders ask of foreigners. A card issued abroad may also add its own foreign transaction fees. Ask your bank.

What “0%” usually comes with

“0%” is an interest rate, not the total cost. Three places to read carefully:

  • The instalment conversion fee. On credit cards, some banks charge a fee to turn a purchase into instalments. Simple arithmetic: on 45,000,000 VND, every 1% of fee is 450,000 VND.
  • Application, management and loan insurance fees. Medpro and Home Credit both mention these without giving amounts. Ask for a number, not “are there any fees?”.
  • What keeps it at 0%. Missing a payment can trigger a late fee or end the promotional rate. Read that clause before you sign.

If you do not qualify for 0% and the loan carries interest, the difference is real. A made-up example for illustration, not any bank’s rate: 45,000,000 VND over 12 months at 18% a year comes to about 4,126,000 VND a month, with about 4,512,000 VND of interest over the term.

At An Nhiên: two plans, with worked examples

For treatment of 10,000,000 VND or more:

  1. Staged payment at the clinic: 30% when the written plan is agreed, the rest in equal parts by treatment stage over up to 12 months. No interest, no application fee.
  2. Linked credit card: 0% over 6, 9 or 12 months if the bank approves. Any conversion fee is set by the bank; the clinic adds none. We do not name the banks.

The table uses the starting price of each method and the same formula as our payment calculator: each instalment is rounded up to the nearest 1,000 VND, and the last one is slightly smaller so the total never exceeds the amount owed.

Method (from, final after the exam) Clinic plan: 30% up front Clinic plan: each of 12 instalments Linked card at 0%: monthly over 12 months Not included
Metal braces, from 28,000,000 VND 8,400,000 VND 1,634,000 VND (last 1,626,000 VND) 2,334,000 VND (last 2,326,000 VND) Extractions, orthodontic screws, replacement retainers
Ceramic braces, from 42,000,000 VND 12,600,000 VND 2,450,000 VND 3,500,000 VND As above
Asian-brand aligners, from 45,000,000 VND 13,500,000 VND 2,625,000 VND 3,750,000 VND Extractions, extra trays beyond the plan, replacement retainers
Invisalign, from 85,000,000 VND 25,500,000 VND 4,959,000 VND (last 4,951,000 VND) 7,084,000 VND (last 7,076,000 VND) As above

An estimate, not a credit offer. The bank or finance company sets interest, fees and limit.

When braces start, the clinic takes a deposit of 20% of the quote, at most 5,000,000 VND. It is credited to the bill, not added on top, and refunded if the clinic changes the date or you cancel more than 48 hours ahead. Full terms are on the booking terms page.

An example

An illustrative case for this demo site; the person and figures are made up.

Ms Lương Bảo Châu, 33, works in an office, has a budget of 40 to 50 million VND and is looking at Asian-brand clear aligners. Suppose her quote after the exam came to exactly the 45,000,000 VND starting price:

  • Staged payment at the clinic: 13,500,000 VND up front, then 12 instalments of 2,625,000 VND. No interest.
  • Linked card at 0% over 12 months, if the bank approves: nothing up front in the calculation, then 3,750,000 VND a month, plus any conversion fee the bank charges.

If her real quote is higher, for example because she needs extractions, every figure above changes. That is why it makes sense to get the written quote first and choose how to pay afterwards.

Three questions before you sign

  1. “What is the total I will pay, with every fee included?” One number, not a rate.
  2. “What happens if I pay late once, or want to pay off early?” Ask about late fees and early settlement fees, if any.
  3. “If the treatment plan changes part way through, how is the instalment plan recalculated?” For example, if extractions or screws are added.

The third one is often skipped. An instalment plan only spreads the amount on the quote; anything outside the quote is still paid separately. Those items are listed in braces cost in Ho Chi Minh City 2026.

Next steps

  • See the starting price and what is included for each method on the braces page.
  • Try other terms in the payment calculator.
  • Book a 45-minute exam with Dr Võ Thanh Tùng, ThS.BS (a medical doctor who also holds a master’s degree), practising licence no. 000063/HCM-GPHN (fictional), on the booking page. The first exam and consultation cost nothing, and Dr Tùng can explain in English.
