Fillings: from 400,000 VND per tooth, final after the exam

A composite filling closes a cavity with tooth-coloured material, usually in one 45-minute visit. It starts from 400,000 VND per tooth, final after the exam. A large cavity, or one that has reached the nerve, may need a root canal or a crown instead; the dentist explains before starting.

What happens in the chair

  1. Exam and X-ray if neededWithin the 45-minute visitThe dentist looks at the decayed tooth and asks whether it hurts with sweets, cold or at night. If they need to see how close the cavity is to the nerve, they ask for an X-ray and say why.
  2. Local anaesthetic if neededSmall, shallow cavities often need no anaesthetic. Deeper ones get a local anaesthetic. Raise a hand whenever you want a pause, and the dentist stops.
  3. Cleaning out the cavityThe dentist removes the decayed part of the tooth and cleans the space. You will hear the drill and feel vibration.
  4. Filling in layersComposite goes in layer by layer, each one hardened with a blue light. The dentist matches the shade to your own tooth.
  5. Bite check and polishYou bite on marking paper so the dentist can smooth any high spot, then the filling is polished.

Who it suits, and when another treatment fits better

A composite filling suits small and medium cavities, small chips, and old fillings that have started to leak. Because it is tooth-coloured, it works on front teeth and back teeth alike.

Not every cavity can be filled. When decay has reached the nerve, the tooth usually needs a root canal first. When a tooth has lost too much structure, a large filling can come loose or the tooth can crack, and the dentist may suggest a crown. The dentist decides after examining you and tells you why, with the price of each option, so you can choose.

What affects the price

A composite filling starts from 400,000 VND per tooth on the price list of 4 October 2026, final after the exam. The final figure depends on the size of the cavity, how many surfaces of the tooth are involved, and where the tooth sits. Baby teeth have their own starting price, shown on the price list. If you need several fillings, the quote lists each tooth separately rather than giving one lump sum.

What is not included

A root canal or a crown, if the cavity turns out to be large, is not part of the filling price. X-rays, when the dentist asks for them, are charged separately. Fillings need no deposit.

Who does it

Two dentists place fillings. Dr Phạm Ngọc Diệp, BS.CKI (specialist level I, a postgraduate clinical qualification in Vietnam), general and cosmetic dentistry, 12 years in practice, practising licence no. 000052/HCM-GPHN (fictional), works Monday to Saturday. Dr Trần Hà My, BS.CKI, root canal treatment and children’s dentistry, 10 years in practice, licence no. 000074/HCM-GPHN (fictional), works Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. If the tooth might need a root canal, booking Dr Hà My avoids a change of dentist halfway through. See Dr Hà My’s profile. Both dentists explain in Vietnamese.

How long it takes

The online booking is one 45-minute visit. If you need several fillings, the dentist spreads them over more than one visit so you do not have to keep your mouth open for too long. If, while cleaning the cavity, the dentist finds it is close to the nerve, they stop, explain, and ask you before changing the plan.

You can book a filling. The clinic phones to confirm within 2 working hours, and you can change or cancel free of charge up to 12 hours before.

Questions about this service

Can I eat straight after a filling?

Composite sets as soon as the light is applied, so you can eat after the visit. If you had an anaesthetic, wait until the numbness wears off so you do not bite your cheek or lip.

How long does a filling last?

It depends on its size, where it is, and how you chew and look after it. The clinic gives a 12-month warranty on fillings for materials and workmanship, provided you come for a review every 6 months; injury and new decay are not covered.

Will it feel sensitive afterwards?

It may feel sensitive to cold for a few days, especially after a deep cavity. If it lasts, or the tooth aches on its own at night or when you bite, call the clinic so the dentist can check it.
