> Metal-ceramic, full zirconia and premium ceramic crowns: starting prices, time needed, who they suit and their limits. Final price after the dentist's exam.

A crown covers the whole visible part of a tooth after the tooth is reshaped. There are three material groups: metal-ceramic, full zirconia (solid ceramic) and premium ceramic. Crowns start from 1,500,000 VND per tooth, final after the exam. Reshaping cannot be undone, so a crown is suggested only for a reason.

## What happens in the chair

1. **Exam, X-ray, choice of material**45-minute examThe dentist examines the tooth, takes an X-ray of the root and nerve, and explains the three material groups with their pros and cons for that tooth. The quote lists each tooth.
2. **Treatment first, if needed**A tooth with an inflamed nerve or a large cavity is treated first with a root canal or a core build-up. That has its own quote and happens only if you agree.
3. **Reshaping and impressions**Under local anaesthetic, the dentist reshapes the tooth for the crown, then takes impressions or a scan. You leave with a temporary crown while the lab makes yours.
4. **Try-in and fitting**The dentist tries the crown, checks colour, bite and fit at the gum line. You look in the mirror, and it is cemented only when you and the dentist are both satisfied.

## Who it suits, and who should not choose it

A crown is usually considered for a tooth that has had a root canal and lost a lot of structure, a tooth too broken to fill, a tooth with an oversized old filling, or on top of an implant. For a back tooth after [root canal treatment](/en/services/root-canal), a crown helps protect what is left of the tooth.

A crown is not the default way to change the colour of healthy teeth. Reshaping removes enamel that does not grow back. If what you mainly want is a lighter shade, the dentist will talk about whitening or cosmetic fillings first. People who grind their teeth heavily, or have inflamed gums or loose teeth, need those issues handled before any crown.

## What affects the price

A metal-ceramic crown starts from 1,500,000 VND per tooth on the price list of 4 October 2026, final after the exam. Three things change the price: the material group, the position of the tooth (front teeth need different colour and translucency from back teeth), and whether the tooth needs a core or a post. [Choosing a crown material](/en/learn/choosing-crown-material) compares the three groups in more detail.

## What is not included

A root canal, a post and core (the support built inside a tooth with little structure left), and X-rays are not part of the crown price. Each appears as its own line in the quote. Crowns need no deposit.

## Who does it

Dr Đoàn Minh Khôi holds the title BS.CKII (specialist level II, a postgraduate clinical qualification in Vietnam). He works in restorations and implants, is the clinic’s professionally responsible person, has 18 years in practice and practising licence no. 000041/HCM-GPHN (fictional). He works Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and can explain in English. See [Dr Khôi’s profile](/en/dentists/doan-minh-khoi).

Dr Phạm Ngọc Diệp, BS.CKI (specialist level I), licence no. 000052/HCM-GPHN (fictional), also makes crowns and works Monday to Saturday; she explains in Vietnamese.

## How long it takes, and how many visits

The online booking is a 45-minute exam and consultation. Making the crown usually takes two or more appointments: one to reshape the tooth and take impressions, one to try in and fit the crown, spaced by the time the lab needs. If a root canal is needed first, those visits come before. The exact dates go into your written plan.

You can [book a crown consultation](/en/book?service=boc-rang-su). The clinic phones to confirm within 2 working hours.

## Exam first, then the quote

A 45-minute visit. The dentist gives a written plan and quote, valid 30 days.

## Questions about this service

### Is reshaping the tooth uncomfortable?

You get a local anaesthetic first. Once it wears off, the tooth may be sensitive to hot and cold for a few days, especially if the nerve is alive. If it lasts or aches on its own, call the clinic so the dentist can check.

### What warranty does a crown have?

A 5-year warranty card for materials and lab work, provided you come for a review every 6 months. Injury, misuse and new disease are not covered. The warranty covers materials and workmanship, not a biological outcome.

### Do I need a root canal before a crown?

Not always. The dentist suggests one only when the nerve is inflamed or dead, or when the tooth needs so much reshaping that the nerve is at risk. The reason is written in your plan.
