Metal-ceramic costs less and handles chewing well, but has a metal core. Zirconia (a solid ceramic) has no metal and is very strong. Premium ceramic is chosen when colour and translucency matter to you, usually on front teeth. At An Nhiên Dental the three groups start from 1,500,000 VND, 3,500,000 VND and 6,000,000 VND per tooth, final after the dentist’s exam. Which one fits depends on where the tooth is, how hard you bite, your gums, the colour of the neighbouring teeth and your budget. The final price is set in writing after the dentist’s exam. The reference pages group materials a little differently and attach prices to ceramic brand names. We do not name brands here; your written quote states the material the dentist proposes for your tooth. ## Preparing the tooth cannot be undone For a crown to fit, the dentist has to remove some of the tooth’s enamel. Cleveland Clinic is clear that this step is irreversible. So the first question is not “which ceramic” but “does this tooth need a crown at all”. Some teeth only need a filling; some need root canal treatment before a crown. The dentist answers that after the exam and, if needed, an X-ray. You get a local anaesthetic before the tooth is prepared. The dentist asks how you feel and stops when you ask. Cleveland Clinic says some sensitivity to heat and cold for a couple of weeks after the crown goes on is normal. Everyone feels it differently. ## The gum line and colour The remark that metal-ceramic crowns show “a dark gum line after 3 to 5 years” comes from Medpro. We have not read a study that gives this figure, so we repeat it only with its source. What is certain is that there is metal inside, so where the gum is thin or the tooth is at the front, the colour where crown meets gum is worth asking about. On back teeth that barely show when you smile, chewing strength usually weighs more. The crown colour is chosen to match the neighbouring teeth. Whitening does not change the colour of a crown, so if you plan to whiten your teeth, tell the dentist before the shade is chosen. ## How long crowns last, and what the warranty says Cleveland Clinic says crowns last between 5 and 15 years with proper care. That depends on your bite, grinding habits, cleaning and reviews. At An Nhiên crowns come with a 5-year warranty card for material and lab work. The condition is a review every 6 months. Not covered: injury, neglect, a new disease. The warranty covers materials and workmanship, not a biological outcome. If you expect to leave Vietnam within that time, ask at the consultation how reviews would work. ## Crowns after root canal treatment, and crowns on implants Nha khoa I-Dent’s page notes that a tooth becomes more brittle and likely to break after root canal treatment, so it is usually crowned for protection. At An Nhiên root canal treatment is a separate item, not part of the crown price; the [crowns page](/en/services/crowns) lists what is not included. The crown on an implant is chosen the same way. It starts from 3,500,000 VND and sits outside the post price. Mr Đinh Văn Phúc, 52, is considering an implant for a lower back tooth he has lost. He asks: “Does this quote include the crown on the post?” At An Nhiên the crown is its own line, from 3,500,000 VND.
